- Egypt study on routine zero LNG flaring credited to Bechtel-led coalition for decarbonizing existing facility

CAIRO, November 12, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Egyptian LNG awarded a feasibility study contract to the Bechtel-led Decarbonization Coalition which includes Enppi, Petrojet, Baker Hughes, GE Digital, HSBC and NBE. The study will assess the implementation of a zero flare system at the Egyptian LNG (ELNG) export terminal at Idku, east of Alexandria. HE Tarek El MollaEgyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, presided over the signing ceremony during the Decarbonization Day events in COP 27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
The feasibility study will evaluate options for full recovery from routine flaring through modifications to existing flaring and compression systems at the ELNG facility, thereby reducing methane emissions from this strategic regional facility. The project fully supports the Methane Global Pledge signed by HE Abdel Fattah Al SisiPresident of Egyptin June 2022. LNG will play a key role in supplying reliable, responsible and sustainable energy to Europe following the trilateral agreement signed between Egyptthe European Union and Israel earlier this year.
The project is part of a larger program between the Coalition and the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to decarbonize existing oil and gas facilities across the country and deliver on egypt climate change strategy. The Decarbonization Coalition was formed earlier this year between Bechtel, Enppi, Petrojet, Baker Hughes, GE Digital, HSBC and National Bank of Egyptunder the auspices of HE the Minister Tarek El Molla.

The feasibility study will be executed on an accelerated basis with the aim of moving to the initial engineering design (FEED) phase by early 2023.
The project demonstrates the operational excellence of the ELNG plant. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and optimizing fuel consumption and operating hours of rotating equipment will improve production and reduce operating costs.
