Bowman Consulting Group acquires Spatial Acuity

Bowman Consulting Group, a Reston, Va.-based infrastructure engineering consulting firm, has acquired Spatial Acuity, an Austin-based 3D modeling and reality capture company.

Founded in 2015, Spatial Acuity provides high definition scanning and 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) to owners, developers and operators of private and public infrastructure. The company uses state-of-the-art geomatics equipment to provide interactive 3D digital models that enable digital twins.

Spatial Acuity’s offerings cover 3D laser scanning, drone intelligence, and 2D and 3D BIM realizations. The company has worked on commercial, residential and institutional construction projects across the country.

Spatial Acuity has 10 employees, according to LinkedIn.

Bowman’s acquisition of Spatial Acuity will strengthen the survey/geospatial capability of the company, which provides 3D laser scanning, drone data collection, underground utility engineering and GIS mapping services.

Garett Owens, Founder and CTO of Spatial Acuity, will join Bowman to lead the Geomatics and Reality Capture Specialist Services group.

“The Spatial Acuity team has distinguished itself by capturing facility data with unparalleled accuracy and delivering project results with a level of sophistication rare in the field,” said Gary Bowman, CEO of Bowman. “Garett and his team will complement and extend our platform, resulting in increased efficiency and significant cross-selling opportunities.”

Nasdaq-listed Bowman expects the acquisition to initially contribute about $2.5 million in annualized net billings for services.

“Reality capture is an exciting field with unlimited growth potential. By partnering with Bowman, we can grow at a rate we wouldn’t have been able to otherwise,” said Owens. “Bowman is embracing cutting-edge technologies and together we will be a leader in the digital transformation of design, construction and asset management in the built environment.”

Bowman has over 1,700 employees and more than 65 offices across the United States. The company provides planning, engineering, construction management, commissioning, environmental consulting, geomatics, surveying and land acquisition services for the built environment.

Bowman acquired earlier this year Anchor Consultants, a marine engineering consulting firm based in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.
