This weekend will be a watershed moment for Carnival Cruise Line, with the first two fleet ships resuming their cruise operations for the first time since March 2020. Much of the comeback has been Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald sailing on Horizon Carnival. However, due to something beyond his control, he is no longer allowed to travel to the United States.
No John Heald on Carnival Horizon
The Carnival Cruise Line brand ambassador was due to fly to Miami on Thursday for the huge weekend with the resumption of operations of two Carnival ships. Carnival view departs from Galveston on Saturday and Horizon Carnival out of Miami on Sunday.
Heald must have been on the first Horizon Carnival sailing from PortMiami. Heald has huge success on his popular Facebook page. With the intention of taking a cruise on the ship, hundreds of followers have also booked the ship. It will be a huge disappointment for the guests who will sail without Heald being on board.
Heald posted a video showing his disappointment after being denied the plane to the United States while fully vaccinated, having a letter from the cruise line stating he was going to do important work and a result negative PCR test. He said:
“I have all the relevant documentation, my PS PCR test. And I spoke with a man from the Homeland Security office who informed me that due to the latest UK variant they are not allowing any UK citizens to fly. Well, the letter I have, the exemption I have, the fact that I’m going to reopen the cruise industry, I didn’t want to know.
The brand ambassador, who is often seen as upbeat, looked and looked genuinely disappointed. Heald mentioned that there was no update regarding the US shutdown in the UK and the reason was the spread of the new variant in the UK.
He went on to say:
” I do not know what to say. I’m generally hopeful and full of a kind of joy that, you know, I don’t know what to say. I really don’t like all those people who book with me. I am really sorry. Hundreds expect to see me on the ship. Look, I’m here at the end. Packed suitcase. And there’s nothing about it in the news, there’s no updates or anything.
The Homeland Security officer informed Heald that he could request a special exemption letter from the U.S. Embassy, but the officer said it was virtually impossible to get one. The Carnival brand ambassador will now have to follow the weekend festivities and cruises from his home in the UK.
John Heald posted:
“To all of you who have booked the Carnival Horizon cruise just to be with me, I offer my deepest and most sincere apologies.”
“Of course I have to play by the rules and the US Homeland Security Officer was kind and understanding, but there was nothing he could do.”
“I feel so sad and most of all I’m sad for you because I feel like I let you down.”
“But I know that aboard the Carnival Vista and Carnival Horizon, the crew, our amazing amazing brilliant, simply the best at sea, will ensure that this return of the fun you have so missed awaits.”
“I’ll be back.”
The original plan was to have meetings at Carnival’s headquarters in Miami, Florida on Friday with a live Facebook. Then on Saturday, Heald was to join Horizon Carnival meet the captain, the crew and discuss the next day’s festivities when the ship departs. Later Saturday the Carnival view is leaving Galveston, so he had to host a Facebook event.

On Sunday, when Carnival Horizon departs Miami, there will be a terminal press event with cruise line president Christine Duffy. Heald had to be there and host the event. What Facebook events is Heald planning now? We’ll just have to wait and see.
