Transport Secretary Arthur P. Tugade said on Tuesday that the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) had approved the free distribution of a Seaman’s Book to new seafarers, while giving a 50% discount to those applying for renewal. .

“The price of a seaman’s book is around 1,000 to 1,800 pesos, depending on where you get it. For new sailors, this will be given free during the term of President Duterte,” he said.

A seaman’s book is used to record service at sea on board merchant ships and fishing vessels. It also contains information about the ship as well as the position or rank of its holder.

Duterte praised Tugade for this, as well as his other initiatives to help Filipinos during the pandemic.

The CTAP welcomes the PPA

In another development, the Confederation of Truckers’ Associations of the Philippines (CTAP) commended the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) for implementing a single document serving as accreditation, operating license and pass. of vehicle in all the ports controlled by the agency as well as the private ports. .

CTAP President Maria Zapata said the move was “in line with the government’s policy orientation, particularly regarding the ease of doing business in the country.”

The new guidelines, which came into effect on January 13, dubbed Transportation Accreditation, Permits and Pass for Ports or TAPPP, streamline the existing process by taking into account RA 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business and Delivery Act. efficient government services.

TAPPP is recognized in all ports of the country. However, this excludes commercial and technical service agreements of port service providers and terminal operators to facilitate and expedite transactions with port users.

“With several more months until this government leaves office, we will implement several additional measures to ensure a speedy and convenient transaction with the PPA,” said PPA Chief Executive Officer Jay Daniel Santiago.

The TAPPP is valid for a period of 3 years from the date of issue. An application for renewal must be submitted no later than 60 days before the expiration of the TAPPP. 30
