DVIDS – News – Sailors and family members enjoy first LCSRON 2 command event in two years

NAVAL STATION MAYPORT (June 10, 2022) — As the salt-infused Atlantic breeze mingles with the sound of music, children laugh in a bouncy house and the cheers of their parents – summer was definitely arrived for Littoral Sailors Combat Ship Squadron (LCSRON) 2 and their families in the first major command event in two years.

“It’s really important for us because it’s the first time we’ve been able to come together as a command, of this size, since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Quincy Bentley. “The most important thing is that we just want sailors to go out and have fun, bring their families and build on the camaraderie.”

The Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) sponsored rally took place outside under the main pavilion at the Mayport Beacon, not far from the sandy beaches. The participants enjoyed the music, the games and the barbecue.

Planning for Family Day began in January when Operations Specialist 1st Class Cahiquita Oscar, President of MWR, pitched the idea to boost the morale of the command and their family members.

Family Day was held with the help of MWR members and volunteers from across the command.

“I think the most important thing is just to have people you can rely on,” said MWR Vice President Yeoman 1st Class Jazmin Maria.

“I think it’s pretty awesome. It’s a great turnout,” Navy wife and mother of two Mandy Mosley said. “The music is on. Everyone looks happy. The children are jumping and my boys were happy to come.

With the first major Command event in over two years on the books, plans have already begun for the Command Holiday Party scheduled for December.

“It’s the next really big one that we can’t wait to put together,” Bentley said.

When asked how he measured the success of this event, Brent Soenksen, Logistics Specialist 2nd Class, member of the MWR, simply replied, “from the smiles”.
