The men’s basketball team defeated the SUNY Maritime Privateers 68-67 on Monday night at the ARC Arena.
The two teams played a very competitive non-conference competition, but in the end the Bearcats came away the winners in Adnan Bajrami scored the winning shot with 2.5 seconds left.
The Bearcats led through the night and managed to take a 13-point lead at 14:34 of the second half on a three par Jehmehl Fair.
The visiting Privateers continued to fight and managed to take the lead at 62-60 with 3:07 to go. They then increased their lead to three points (67-64) on a three from Mike Regan.
The Bearcats never lost their temper and quickly returned to be the first on a Michael richards layup with 47 seconds left to reduce the score to 67-66.
The Privateers returned the ball with 20 seconds left, giving the Bearcats possession, which they counted on Bajrami’s running shot (video below) with 2.5 seconds left to take the lead 68-67 .
Maritime called for a quick timeout and fired one last shot, but Emil Purisic stole their incoming attempt to seal victory.
Fair led the Bearcats with a career-high 19 points and Mohamed gueye, the CUNYAC player of the week, narrowly missed a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Ryan Donovan led the visitors with 23 points.
