Norwegian Cruise Line will increase tips from April

Norwegian Cruise Line has informed customers and travel agents that it will be increasing gratuities beginning in April 2022. This will be the first service fee increase since before the global pandemic and the nationwide suspension. industry, which began in the spring of 2020.

Norwegian Cruise Line Tip Increase

The cruise line has sent a letter notifying customers and travel agents that gratuities will be increased starting April 1, 2022. The amount will increase by at least 50 cents, depending on the passenger’s booking category.

In the letter that was sent, NCL said: “At Norwegian Cruise Line, we are committed to providing exceptional experiences for our guests at every stage of the cruise journey, and with the dedication of our onboard team, we are able to turn your vacation dreams into reality. as such, we make it easy for guests to show their appreciation for these vacation heroes with a discretionary daily service charge, which offers gratuities to key members of the onboard team, including room stewards, restaurant servers and backstage support staff.

For passengers booked in a balcony stateroom or lower stateroom, the daily service charge will be increased to $16.00 per person. Currently the charge is $15.50 per person per day. For Club Balcony Suite guests, the amount will remain the same at $18.00 per person per day.

Guests booked into The Haven & Suite will have their daily gratuities increased to $20.00. Currently the rate for this category is $18.50 per person per day. This will be a $1.50 increase effective April 1, 2022.

Norwegian cruise line offers customers to take advantage of the current lower rate. Customers who make a reservation by March 31, 2022 may prepay their gratuities at the current rate. This must be done before the departure date. If customers have already paid the service charge before their cruise, nothing will be changed.

Why increase tips?

The daily service fee isn’t just a fee that goes straight into Norwegian Cruise Line’s pockets. Payment is split between crew members who provide services to customers on a daily basis, including room stewards, dining room staff and crew who work behind the scenes. These crew members often work the hardest on board for the lowest pay, and tips are an essential part of the money they earn.

With the pause in industry-wide operations having a significant impact on the crew, they will welcome the increase. During the shutdown of cruises for most of 2020 and the majority of 2021, many crew members were forced to stay home. Although some crew members eventually found alternative or temporary work in their home countries, many waited without income to be returned to the ship.

Guests have the option of adjusting their gratuity charges at the onboard guest services desk during the cruise. However, it is always better to prepay the amount before the trip and forget about it. Gratuities only apply to passengers over 3 years of age, and if a cruise is cancelled, the amount will be fully refunded.
