Sailor Blue holds her ground in Open Trot

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI – Hanging by the narrowest margins, Sailor Blue (armbro avocado) landed on the wire first during Thursday night’s Open Trot at the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park.

Harness racer Ken Murphy pushed Sailor Blue into the lead in the $2,800 Open Trot and led by splits of 29, 58.4 and 1:28.3 while Jessiejesorjessica (ridered by David Dowling) bided his time in second. Jessiejesorjessica bowed in the stretch but Sailor Blue fought back to win by a hair’s breadth in 1:57.3 with Freddie (Marc Campbell) third.

Jeff Holmes trains Sailor Blue for owners Cindy and Ambyr MacDonald and Yossi Martonovich of Montague.

Campbell took three evening program wins with The Lady Sheriff (1:56.4) from her own barn, Elm Grove Penney (1:56.1) for trainer Melissa Rennie and Maggiedelight (1:56.4) for Michelle Myers.

Jason Hughes also celebrated a hat-trick after visiting the winner’s circle with Hallofaride (2:01.1) for trainer Janice Hubbard, Glider Man (1:58.1) from the barn Jennifer Doyle and Roses For Jennie (1 : 59.2) from his own Charlottetown stable. .

Driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Ron Matheson teamed up for two winners with Tobins Wish (1:56.2) and Ms. Patricia Bea (1:58.2).

Live racing continues Saturday night at Red Shores Charlottetown with an opening hour of 6:30 p.m., while Red Shores Summerside will host a special Harness The Hope program Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
