Wain polishes senior day sweep for men’s tennis

EWING, N.J. – justin wain bowed his senior day with a singles victory from behind to earn a 9-0 sweep of Ramapo for the No. 30 TCNJ men’s tennis team in an NJAC matchup Friday at the Tennis Complex.

Wain, the only senior to graduate, was honored in a pre-game ceremony before the newly ranked Lions (11-1, 2-0) posted their second straight shutout and third in the last four games . With the win, TCNJ moved one step closer to an NJAC East Division title, with a victory at NJCU on April 24 the only thing between the Lions and a date with the West Division champion for the NJAC title and the first NCAA automatic qualifying spot.

TCNJ won two of three doubles matches by shutout and posted four singles double bagels in another dominating performance.

Nikola Kilibarda and Nick Matkiwsky started with an 8-0 victory over Bobby Ciarletta and Matthew Doran in doubles No. 2, with Derek Jordan and Jacob Quijano hot on their heels with an 8-0 shutout match for No. 3 against Alex Dehner and James Jackson.

Paired with Akul Telluri On Friday, Wain was an 8-4 winner over Siddharth Byreddy and Kenny Elliott at No. 1.

Adrian Tsui (#2), Matkiwsky (#4), Jordan (#5), and Telluri (#6) all won by 6-0, 6-0 score lines, and Kilibarda spun in a dominant 6- 0, Victory 6-2 over Doran at No. 3.

That left it to Wain, who lost the first set, 6-3, before coming back strong to take the second by a 6-1 count. He claimed the third set super breaker, 10-2, to complete the sweep.

The Lions travel to Salisbury on Saturday to take on the regionally ranked Sea Gulls.
